Ingredient List
- 1 Large Head of Cabbage
- 1 Cup of Rice (Riceland or any long grain rice)
- 1 Lb Ground Beef
- 1 Lb Ground Pork
- 1 Small Onion
- Butter or Margarine
- 2 Cans of Tomato Soup
- 1 Egg
- Salt & Pepper
Step 1- Boil water in large pot (enough to cover cabbage head). Carefully add cabbage and boil until leaves are tender, turning cabbage occasionally. Do not overcook.
Step 2 - Add rice to 2 cups of boiling water. Stir often until water boils out. Let rice cool 1/2 hour or more.
Step 3 - Dice the onion and saute in butter or margarine until golden. Do not burn.
Step 4 -In a large bowl, mix together the beef, pork, rice, onion, and egg. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix with hands!
Step 5 - Spread out cabbage leaves and add large spoonful of golabki mixture to the center. Roll leaf around mixture, tucking in sides as you roll (this part takes practice :)
Step 6 - Add golabki's to roasting pan (one layer is best but if you have many golabki's, it is okay to stack a few on top or add them to another pot). Add 1 can of tomato soup, spreading over the top of the golabki's. Add 2 cans of water to pan, around golabki, not on top.
Step 7 - Add roasting pan (covered) of golabki to 350 degree preheated oven. Cook for two hours. After one hour check the water and add some more tomato soup to the top of the golabki's (maybe 1/2 a can).
Step 8 - Enjoy!!!!
